Welcome to the Whole Dog, Complex System Blog

I’m a data scientist with a doctorate in Computational Neuroscience—a field focused on how systems interact, adapt, and fall out of balance. In dynamical systems like the brain or body, those interactions often lead to surprises—nonlinear shifts, emergent patterns, and outcomes you don’t see coming until they unfold. That background, combined with years of experience building complex, models in healthcare and other fields, has shaped how I think, solve problems, and respond when systems—especially biological ones—start to break down.

This blog is where I’m sharing what I’ve learned—not just to document a challenging journey, but because it might matter to someone else. These are the insights I had to figure out myself- the kinds of insights that didn’t show up in the vet’s office or standard treatment plans. Those caring for dogs with IBD know this struggle well—the constant battle with unknowns, shifting symptoms, and a system that doesn’t always follow the rules. For me, many of those unknowns have centered around IBD, endocrine imbalance, hip dysplasia, and the wider puzzle of managing chronic pet health across systems.
